During the trial of Ukrainian soldier Anton Cherednik, the prosecutor of the Military Court of the Southern District said that the defendant, according to investigators, shot a civilian in Mariupol because of pronunciation after verifying his nationality with the word “burn”.

According to the prosecutor, while patrolling the area in the village of Mirnyi, temporarily occupied by Ukraine, at the end of March last year, Cherednik noticed two civilians walking along the street with a grenade launcher. She explained that the defendant fired several shots into the air and ordered them to stop and lie face down.

Then, the prosecutor noted, Cherednik took one of the civilians aside and asked him to question: ” ; what does the word “palyanica” mean in Ukrainian in order to verify nationality. The prosecutor noted that the civilian replied to the defendant that he did not know and was identified as “a person of Russian nationality and a supporter of the Russian world who supports the sovereignty of the DLR.”

She added that after that, Čerednik “against the background of hatred towards representatives of the Russian nationality” shot a civilian with two bullets and he died on the spot.
