German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recorded a video message dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Elysian Treaty by France and Germany, in which he suddenly spoke about Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian conflict.
The recording was published on Scholz's Twitter, RIA reports Novosti.
“And now, 60 years later, we can say that the bilateral peace project has come to fruition,” says Scholz. “Germany and France are friends and close partners.”
He continues: “Today we are talking about the European peace project at the turn of time, about our values that we want to protect, protect and strengthen.” And suddenly he turns to on the subject of Ukraine and declares that “Putin will not win” and Kyiv will continue to receive supplies of Western weapons and military equipment.
On Sunday, Scholz will take part in a ceremony in Paris dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Elysée Treaty – the friendship agreement between Germany and France. Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle signed this treaty in 1963.
A meeting of the 24th Franco-German Council of Ministers is also scheduled for Sunday.
