Former chief designer Ukrainian state enterprise “Antonov” Alexander Los recommended instead of the F-35 Lightning II to buy American fighters F-15EX Eagle II. The latter, he said, could be detected by Russian radar stations. The designer shared his opinion with Defense Express.
According to the designer, the modernization of the MiG-29 and Su-27 does not make sense in operation, because it requires spare parts and their purchase or production “Does not create new opportunities and capabilities”. Elk believes that by 2035, these aircraft will become “museum pieces.”
“We must understand that the F-35 will not take root in Ukraine,” said the specialist. “Because we are on the border with Russia, a continuous radar field of the Russian army that is already able to detect fine objects.”
Speaking of F-15EX Eagle II fighters, Los remarked that this aircraft is a real “air trade”. It is capable of carrying up to 24 pieces of heavy weapons and operating at long distances.
The expert noted that Ukraine will not be able to create an effective air defense system alone, so it must cooperate with Poland and the Baltic countries.
