Kazakh President Kassym-Žomart Tokayev will not participate in the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg this year, Reuters reports with reference to the country's press service.

It is reported that Kazakhstan will be represented at SPIEF by Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar and Deputy Minister of Economy Timur Zhaksylykov. The reasons for the absence of the head of state at events in St. Petersburg are not reported.

In 2022, Tokayev attended the SPIEF plenary meeting, during which he made a number of important statements. In particular, he refused to recognize the independence of the DNR and the LNR. A number of sources also reported that the Kremlin was going to present Tokaev with the Order of Alexander Nevsky, but he rejected the award. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, later stated that no one was going to reward Tokayev.
