There was a “technical scandal” at the BRICS summit with Putin: they communicated gestures

Narendry Modi's greatest happiness

The leaders of the BRICS countries, who met at a live summit, had communication problems. Only the presidents of Russia, China and Brazil were able to speak without interference. The South African leader lost the image and the Indian prime minister lost the sound. Everyone, including Vladimir Putin, had to temporarily switch to sign language. In real life, however, the BRICS have no problems: all participants have assured that cooperation is deepening and the authority of the “five” on the world stage is constantly growing.

Unlike other international associations, whose members have been meeting face to face for a long time, BRICS remains quarantined. Only the presidents of South Africa and Brazil travel actively around the world. Whereas the leaders of China, Russia and India prefer to stay at home and go abroad only rarely. Vladimir Putin attended the BRICS summit from the Zavidovo residence, where Alexander Lukashenko has been visiting since Thursday. Given that the communication between the two leaders, as Dmitry Peskov explained to reporters, is informal, it was not difficult for Putin to interrupt and contact the members of the “five” at the appointed time.

The event was opened as a host by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Chinese usually prepare very carefully for such meetings – they think about the cultural program, compile special menus and produce various souvenirs. But now they obviously don't have it: the country is in permanent lock – when the inhabitants of some cities can briefly breathe fresh air, others are closed between four walls. Not surprisingly, in his speech, Xi Jinping spoke again of the pandemic, as well as other traditional topics for Beijing – especially the building of a multipolar world and the danger of unilateral sanctions. The Chinese chief called on the BRICS partners to abandon the Cold War mentality and the confrontation between the blocs. “A large family of 'communities of common destiny for humanity' will thus overtake a small group of hegemons,” Xi explained Xi's historical mission of 'five', although in the current situation his wishes, frankly, look utopian. : Russia does not intend to give up the confrontation with NATO, nor does it hide it.

When the camera showed all the participants in the summit, it turned out that they still could not do without souvenirs. The Chinese sent each president a cup using the famous “tsinghua” technique (where white porcelain is painted blue. – “MK” ). The four leaders had a gift lying idle on the table. And in front of everyone, only Vladimir Putin sipped from a painted glass, who a few years ago became addicted to green tea. The Russian president was the fourth to speak, and by then it was clear that there were major communication problems at the online summit. Translators were almost non-existent. And the image of South African President Cyril Ramaphos regularly disappeared from the screen. Vladimir Putin said that the authority of the BRICS on the world stage is constantly growing – this is due to the economic, political and human potential of the participating countries. According to him, the transnational nature of the challenges and threats requires joint responses. Well, with the help of financial mechanisms, Western countries are transmitting their own mistakes in macroeconomic policy to the world. “We are convinced that now, more than ever, the leadership of the BRICS countries is required to create a unifying course for building a multipolar system of international relations,” said GDP, adding that such an agenda would find the support of many countries. in Asia, Africa and Latin America. It is worth noting that the day before, the Russian leader was more specific and explained how useful the BRICS is for Russia in the face of sanctioning pressure. China and India are increasing Russian oil purchases. Negotiations are underway to open Indian chains and deliveries of Chinese cars. Russian IT technologies are in demand in India and South Africa, while space satellites are in demand in Brazil. On the agenda is the issue of creating an international reserve currency based on a basket of the currencies of five countries. In general, the prospects outlined by the Russian leader are really good, but the reality is not very good yet. Exports of goods from friendly countries are not growing, but declining. As for oil, purchases have risen due to the big rebate that Chinese and Indian companies are negotiating for themselves, taking advantage of the situation.

The last speaker at the summit was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Judging by his face, he spoke with inspiration and enthusiasm, but unfortunately no one heard him. Other presidents tried to draw the attention of their colleagues to the problem with the microphone: Vladimir Putin pointed to a button on the table, Ramaphosa shook the headphones, Bolsonaro made a “stop” sign with both hands. (One Xi continued to smile at the screen as if nothing had happened.) But it didn't bring a quick effect. Modi spoke for about 2 minutes, until the broadcasters finally managed to tell the Indian side in English that “other leaders do not hear the prime minister.” When the merger was resolved, Modi also emerged worried about the pandemic, but hoped that the BRICS 'cooperation would contribute to a global recovery.
