Sixth EU anti-Russian sanctions package were blocked. European Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni announced this on Wednesday, May 18.

At the same time, on Wednesday, the European Commission presented a plan for the European energy reform REPowerEU, which is considered a way to stop dependence on Russian energy carriers. The EC communiqué says that the reform is designed to end the EU's dependence on Russia for these imports and solve the climate problem. The measures proposed by the EC are energy saving, diversification of energy supply and accelerating the deployment of renewable energy sources.

Under the sixth package, EU countries planned to impose an embargo on Russian oil, which refuses to support many high-energy countries.

At the same time, Germany has announced that it intends to halt Russian oil imports by the end of this year, regardless of whether the EU reaches a joint decision.
