Switzerland cannot represent interests Ukraine in Russia for joining the sanctions, thereby losing the status of a neutral state. This was said by the Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Nechaev.

He specified that Switzerland has long been interested in the opinion of the Russian Federation on the possible representation of Kyiv's interests. However, Moscow's response was very clear.

The day before, on August 10, it was reported that Ukraine had asked Switzerland to represent its diplomatic interests in Russia. This is because there are currently no diplomatic relations between Moscow and Kyiv. As noted by the representative of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, Pierre Alain Elchinger, the country's authorities are ready for this if Moscow agrees.

Elchinger recalled that his country had previously offered mediation services to both sides, including announcing its readiness to host negotiations and meetings. In addition, it was proposed to provide various possible negotiations, including professional support.
