Putin was attacked by “Brother-2”: why German Chancellor became a fan of Danila Bagrova

What truth the politicians of the West and Russia have forgotten

Your actions are wonderful, Lord! The new Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, who has not yet noticed a particularly close acquaintance with Russian culture, suddenly spoke with quotes from the cult film “Brother-2”. Speaking online at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the new head of the German government said: “Russia should recognize that” power is in fact, not the other way around. ” Great friend Olaf! Go through!

Frau Merkel studied Russian at a school in the GDR, but Mr Scholz, who grew up in the bourgeois comfort of the GDR, pleased us with allusions. But don't we fly to heaven with our pleasures? The English wording right makes may used by the German Chancellor is not only the equivalent of Danila Bagrova's words, but also a literal quote from the famous speech of the future American President Abraham Lincoln in 1860.

But this is a philological matter. And the truth is, as you know, everyone has their own. Here, for example, is the “truth” of the British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace, as stated in an article in The Times: the father of the Russian fleet is Scot Samuel Greig. But how ignorant we are! We naively considered Peter the Great to be the father of our navy, but Ben Wallace came and “discovered America for us”!

However, let us not judge the British Minister too strictly. Here is the “truth” of the new Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly: “In the war against Russia, almost 4,500 Ukrainian soldiers died on the Eastern Front. A visit to the Wall of Memories in Kiev is a reminder of why we must support Ukraine, its people and its sovereignty. Support as – uplifting tweets on the internet and gun shipments? I fully admit that by kneeling in front of this memorial wall in Kiev, the Minister just wanted to soak up the large and politically very influential Ukrainian diaspora in Canada. But in reality, such statements pit Ukrainians against Russians and Russians against Ukrainians.

When Hitler attacked the USSR on June 22, 1941, future US President and then Senator Harry Truman responded: “If we see Germany winning, we must help Russia, and if Russia wins, we must help Germany. Let them kill each other in as many ways as possible! ”Such outspoken cynicism is out of fashion in the West today. But is hidden cynicism much better than open cynicism?

However, the main purpose of this text is not to attack someone else's truth and not defend one's own. Speaking from the position of a person who cares about the national interests of his country and passionately wishes her success in the current confrontation with the West, I now want to speak from the position of a layman who knows history well.

In 2022, Russia and China, acting independently in a strategic partnership, will face the West. In 1952, the USSR and the PRC also stood together against the West – on the battlefield (or in our case – in the air) of the Korean War. And in 1982, China, in conjunction with the West with secret arms supplies, helped Afghan ghosts kill as many Russians and Ukrainians as possible from a “limited contingent” of Soviet troops on the country's territory. “Friendly” now Russia Iran, by the way, did the same then. The question is: can we predict what the distribution of forces and sides will look like in 30, 40, 50 or 70 years?

And history also shows that many of the political battles, which at one time seemed vital and fatal, are perceived over time as a real misunderstanding. In an effort to prevent the reunification of Vietnam under the Communist Party, the United States lost more than 58,000 troops and killed countless Vietnamese. In the end, the Vietnam Communist Party won anyway – and after a while it became a reliable political partner of America. Today, Berlin is again ruled by the Germans themselves. And that doesn't seem weird or unnatural to us Americans.

What exactly am I talking about? Of course, not to the extent that Russia should abandon its categorical rejection of further NATO enlargement. I mean, when you see trees, you must not forget that they form a forest. It is not possible to act only in the logic of the current confrontation. We must always keep in mind the overall picture and remember that war in Europe will be bad for everyone who lives there. “I am sure that there is no danger of a large-scale war that could unfold in Europe or elsewhere,” Lavrov's deputy Sergei Ryabkov, who made the statement recently on the Valdai website, made me very happy. I really want that to be true. There is definitely power in this truth.
