Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov said that Western countries are “gravitating towards the apocalypse”. He thus answered the question of journalist Pavel Zarubin, who asked for a reaction to the statement of NATO countries that talked about a military way of solving the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Peskov, it is better to talk about something more constructive. He added that it is to be hoped that “some political will and some political reason still remains at least partially in the collective West”. The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that this mindset is fully preserved in Russia.

At the summit in Madrid, NATO leaders approved a new strategic concept of the alliance until 2030. It recognizes Russia as the “most significant and direct threat” to security. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo later remarked that Russia could supposedly be defeated “only on the battlefield”. In this regard, he called on the representatives of the alliance states to support Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that NATO is starting a new arms race. According to him, this process is an aggressive military construction. It calls for “compulsory demonization of the enemy,” as Grushko put it.
