Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government, Alexander Novak, who oversees the energy sector, commented on the report about Poland's request to buy 3 million tons of Russian oil in 2023, in the event of a planned rejection of these purchases.

“We are only following this from the media, – Novák told journalists. – We believe this is absurd theater – what are they doing.

Recall that previously the largest Polish oil refinery Orlen, according to media reports, submitted a request to Russian colleagues from Transneft. to purchase 3 million tons of Russian raw materials in 2023 through the Druzhba pipeline.

The European Union had previously adopted several sanctions packages related to Russia's special operation in Ukraine. The purpose of sanctions – stop Russian exports of energy resources, including oil and gas. However, a full-fledged substitute for Russian raw materials was not found, so the last of the sanctions packages dealt with a ceiling on the price of Russian oil at $60 per barrel. This ceiling is contested by both Russia and a number of other players.
