Lithuanian opposition leader sentenced to 6 years for spying for the Russian Federation

Siauliai court in Lithuania, recognized opposition leader Algirdas Paleckis is guilty of spying for Russia. According to the court decision, he will remain in prison for six years, while the public prosecutor's office requested nine years in prison.

According to the indictment of Paleckis in 2017-2018 as part of an organized group, in contact with a Russian intelligence officer and other Russians, one of whom was found guilty in the events of 13 January 1991 in Vilnius. The investigation believed that the suspects were collecting information for Moscow for a monetary reward.

Several people were charged in the case, including the former leader of the Socialist People's Front. Paleckis. In the same case, a citizen of the Russian Federation, former leader of Unity Valery Ivanov, was detained in December 2018.
