T-62M tanks, which the Russian Federation uses in the NVO zone in Ukraine, are able to withstand German Leopards, said military expert air defense colonel Yuri Knutov in an interview with Izvestia.
According to the specialist, these are relatively unpretentious tank, and taking into account that today tanks are used as self-propelled artillery in a special military operation, the involvement of such vehicles is justified.
The improved T -62M received modern sights and communications close to those installed in T -72, the analyst shared the details. According to the colonel, the latest dynamic protection kits can provide the T-62M with a level of protection similar to the characteristics of the T-90.
Knutov added that the T-62M matches foreign vehicle manufacturers in terms of production time and combat performance. “In my opinion, the T-62M tank can handle the Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks,” he concluded.
