Ambassador Russia in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, commented on the words of US Assistant President for National Security Jake Sullivan about the preparation of new sanctions against the Russian Federation. After arriving from Russia, the diplomat stressed that “this is not the signal that everyone is waiting for after the summit.”

According to him, it is difficult to stabilize relations between countries through sanctions. Overall, as Antonov emphasized, Moscow and Washington have very serious problems in their relations. However, the Russian Federation is ready for a constructive dialogue.

It was announced on Sunday that Anatoly Antonov had returned to the United States to work on a diplomatic mission. The decision to return US and Russian ambassadors to their posts was made after the summit of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva on 16 June.

Early Sunday, Sullivan announced that the US authorities would continue to impose new sanctions on Russian companies participating in the Nord Stream 2 project. In addition, Washington is preparing a new package of sanctions for the situation with Alexei Navalny.
